Community Supported Agriculture

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between the member and the farmer; the member receives fresh locally grown produce at a fair price and the farmer receives a fair wage for his work. The direct relationship allows people to know who, how, where, and when their food is grown and re-establishes the connection between agriculture and the community. Members buy a share of the harvest, and each week throughout the growing season they receive a variety of produce. The variety and volume supplied throughout the season reflects the nature of farming which is dependent on weather and growing conditions. Thus the members share with the farmer the inherent risks and benefits of farming.

A Promised Land CSA produce share offers approximately 25 weeks of produce starting in mid May and finishing in mid November. The seasonal share includes a wide array of vegetables and a few fruits. Each share is enough to feed approximately two to four people. However, if you really love your vegetables or have larger family, consider buying multiple shares. This is also a good idea for people who want to preserve for winter. If you think a share is too much produce perhaps a friend or neighbor would like to split a share.

We also offer a fruit share. Our fruit share is tree fruit only, and is locally grown in the Lake Ontario Fruit Belt using integrated pest management (I.P.M.). This means that the orchards are scouted for pest problems and the problems are addressed when crop damage warrants. The fruit share will run for approximately 20 weeks starting in July through the middle of November. The fruits included are: sweet cherries, sour cherries, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, apples and pears.

By becoming a member of the Promised Land CSA you receive more than just produce. You also have the opportunity to come to the farm, visit with farmers and see things grow. You can also join in our events such as potlucks and walking farm tours.
